So far my time here in Honduras has been pretty strenuous-I have been taken out to eat, I was forced to go exploring in caves, I sat through a birthday party complete with cake and ice cream, and now I have to go to the beach for the rest of the week. I'm telling you, they are really working me hard around here.
In all seriousness, we did get a good amount of work done today! It was a little strange without any mission teams around, but we were able to do a lot of office work that couldn't get finished the week before. We mostly worked on the online newsletter that goes out every couple of months. One of my jobs was to find one of the students and have him write his testimony about his experience at El Sembrador. He was a really sweet kid, and he wrote a beautiful story of how God worked in his life to get him to this school. Here is a picture of him in his class:
One of my favorite jobs was translating his story, as well as a couple of letters that students wrote to their sponsors. At first I was a little self-conscious about my Spanish skills, but I swallowed my pride and with a lot of concentration (and a little help from Google translator) I think I did a pretty good job! It has always been my dream to be an interpreter, so I hope I get the chance to translate more letters. There are over 100 sponsors, so I think the odds are in my favor.
Like I mentioned before, Leslie invited me to go with her to visit her parents (and the beach) on the north coast. I won't get back until Monday, but I will post some pictures then!
On an unrelated note, a bit of crazy news-last night Rhonda was outside watching a plane fly back and forth over the school's property. She said because it was a full moon it was probably a drug plane-a full moon means they don't need any extra light to land. Sure enough, we found out tonight that the same plane had crashed the night before-full of over 600 kilos of cocaine. One of the people in the plane was killed and another was injured. It made me so sad to see the lengths people go to for such a terrible business. Please pray for everyone involved in that accident.
Have a wonderful 4th of July! Watch some fireworks for me, and I will update you all next week!
